I am not sure what to expect, but happy endings are not always possible. I have spent several great hours with Nada and Isaac and Mary etc.... Ms. Welti, you take a person and absorb them into the lives of people from the first page. You HAVE to find out more about them and what happens. You do this with words. It is the same as being an artist. Your genre is words instead of paint or clay. What a gift! You combine words like other artists combine paints and colors and textures to give the observer a feeling. Draw them in. Make them think and ponder and think about it even when not directly in front of the canvas, in your case pages. I am sure whatever genre of fiction you try, you will excell. Because No Shelter is one of those you remember the people. Places and events unlike other novels that tend to run together and you really can't remember what happens in them after you have read a few more. Thank you for the wonderful hours spent with your "art". I look forward to viewing more.

Re: Tangled Hopes (Prequel)

Yes, I've put my T.S. People don't seem to be in the mood for unhappy endings right now, so I'll be writing happy endings under my pen name for a while. I actually just made the USA Today bestsellers list under my pen name. It's bittersweet.

Re: A much dreaded post

Really? I can't find it on there. I did listen to it and the narrator did a great job. She made me fall in love with the trilogy all over again. I hope to write some more post-apocalyptic and dystopian later this year. I will keep you all posted. :-)

Re: A much dreaded post

Sad to hear this. I think of all genres dystopias are my favorite :)

Though the ending through me off. I went searching for an explanation and a lot of the reviewers say that the ending actually helped them figure stuff out or made the things you rushed or did make sense. Im not sure if its the fact that I literally read this book all day and into the night to finish it an am too tired to process the end or what? But honestly I am just a bit confused , I have a jist of the ending but I dont think ive had my "aha" moment other readers have. does anyone know if someone else has asked this question or explained the ending? If I dont figure it out, it will drive me crazy! lol

But again, great read really with intriguing characters and plot.

Re: Why Buried Alive ends on a somber note

I just finished reading Buried Alive, and while I would have loved to see things all work out, I agree with you that the point of Dystopia is that there are unconquerable forces at work... This means that things don't always work out for the main characters. This is the type of book that pushes the boundaries of the genre for YA... Too many love triangles end with everyone getting what the character " needed"... This doesn't really prepare readers for disappointment with how things work out; I think the too neat endings slap a happy little bow on what are very complex and sloppy human relationships. I learned a lot from reading as I grew up, and learned many life lessons without ( very thankfully) having to experience them, so I think a little reality check is definitely in order... Great job writing something realistic and plausible! Maybe the rise in books that present happy happy endings all neatly resolved has something to do with many of the teenagers I talk to telling me that they will be rich and famous ( you fill in the profession from sports/entertainment)... Could be...
Sorry to hear about your decision to shift genres, I have Darklandia and am looking forward to reading it!
Crystal

Re: A much dreaded post

I'm so sorry to hear you're having a hard time of it - you do indeed have to do what is best for you and your family. I read No Shelter Trilogy in 2 days time. I got the trilogy through Amazon Kindle. I don't normally read sience fiction or fantasy but because of some of the reviews, I did and am not sorry.I have noticed that a lot of people write bad reviws, do so frequently on many books.
